That is exactly what we are going for for my son's 64. Same bumpers, running boards, interior color, wheels (except we have polished, not chrome) and basic color (red) We haven't decided exactly on which red yet.
Go with the original paint.

I thought so. I want Porsche India Guards Red but my son is leaning towards Viper Red. We'll decide when we get to that point.

I would run a buffer over it ... put it together and let it fly .......
