Been there, done that but took the long way.. 3,450 miles in 4.5 days

Sit your ass in the driver's seat of a Beetle for 23 straight hours and drive from Chicago to Denver in one day.... Non stop except to stop to take a leak and get gas. On my last trip my ass was in the seat for over 74 hours... I slept less than 10 hours in 5 days

I have made the I40 trip to LA 6 times, 3 times in a VW...
Yeah its a long trip and a true test of man and machine...

Just don't speed in Colorado... else you may not get as lucky asI did and get pulled over by a State trooper thats a former VW Drag racer...

If ya'll boys want to go I'll tag along.. Its been 3 years sine my last cross country and I'd like to use the 2.4 in the Double Cab coupled to the 915 for the next cruising machine for the trek... Lets go!! (I'll have A/C :-)

and if I take the double cab I can haul a spare "small block" for you boys that are "Bic" powered :-)

I never expected ya'll to drive a VW that far :-)

Yes , the plan is to drive the vert.... Very Happy dont have to worry about rock chips and all that bull. Got a alot of work to do to it . but have a year to get it done. I think I may need a top Tan....but will need money first for that. Cool Hey Bill if you are ready by then maybe we can meet up somewhere in the middle. I would love to get about 5 to 10 VWS to make the cruise if other want to trailer with us that would be fine i guess , would be alot of fun to just drive and enjoy the ride. My cousin is gonna go and ride with me and our wifes are gonna fly out and meet us in burbank. Cool . We got a year to get this going so if you are interested halla.

My freind Chuck is in with his squareback. Charles get the 66 ready! Cool

Mine will be done in August.. The double cab doesn't need much at all to be a good driver.. Just a real engine that doesn't need a downshift to climb a hill and a nice 5 speed...

Blake finished the trans updates today, so the box is built already.. I have every part for the engine and just need to soda blast the case and build it and that will be done next month.
I traded a 996 cylinder head for all my 944 brakes today, so those will just need a caliper freshening and they'll also be ready to bolt right on..

So it'll be running and have all the bugs worked out by September at the latest, the body needs nothing to be a good driver... Right now its a good 10 footer.

Its 2347 miles from my drive way to the turn off at Jamboree road for the Classic.. Lets go...
