Newbee to VW's so please don't flame..

Post  Ruptured Duck on Tue 29 Dec 2009, 5:54 pm

You guy's have some amazing rides. For the last 8 months i have been working on my son's first car. it's a 70 standard single port 1600. I know that it is not quite the burner most of you guys have but for a 16 year old to start out with I think it's just fine. We have added dual 34's and it came with 87mm pistons so I guess it's a little better than stock. We narrowed the front 2.25" and dropped it about 3.5" It's still in bits and pieces but coming along. just hope teenagers today will think a 40 year old car is still cool.

Fired the motor up for the first time last week and i think I have a piston slapping. It's a knock that happens on very rotation of the crank. i used a stethoscope and pin pointed it to the #2 piston. Guess we will need to drop the motor again.

This is my first Bug. I make a living designing Jeep parts. Go figure I have been noting the build on an off-road forum. Attached is the link. I'm also going to piss some off because we are doing a roll on paint job. We took it down to the metal (8 coats of paint) and it's turning out a lot better than i expected. ..... Anyway have fun pointing out what i have done wrong so far... like I said this is the first bug so I got to learn my mistakes somewhere. Rolling Eyes Neutral

Funny... was thinking about that on the way into work this morning... Have to deal with the wife on that one. Kinda have the one toy rule for now. As soon as I punch out a roll up door in the basement I'll have a little more play room. Currently the Jeep gets to stay up stairs. I know where there is a 64-65 just rusting away. been keeping an eye on it and think they might just give it to someone willing to pull it out of the woods. I really, really wanted to do a low tech rat-rod for him but I got overuled on that one.

What's the thought on the fenderless V-rods? I have always been into sports cars and would love to take out the back seat flip the motor around drop it and push the front out 10". Not sure if that PC here scratch

Doing the math now....
2010 - 40 = 1970

2010 - 50 = 1960

Actually to be PC you need to have a VW as old as you are. What a Face

One toy rule?!! That's not fair at all. Laughing Check out volksrods.com. There are some cool rides being built but you may have to look through the members Intro section, not many make it on the main forum anymore. I've got a 61 volksrod started but it's been a weird year and not enough time or money for all my projects so it's on hold for now.
